mjdoutdoors wrote: True alcohol does not make everybody want to fight, for me it me want to sleep. I base my opinion on the sciene at the bars here in wyoming. Cowboys and alcohol= fights every weekend. If those same people were smoking there wouldn't be those fights. These are only my observations as well as the opinions of many people I talk to. As for alcohol and driving, It's a deadly combination. The stats on this speak for themselves. Shit, if the state were completely dry and all they could do was smoke pot and fight, they'd still fight. It has NOTHING to do with the chemicals. It has everything to do with cutting loose and doing the shit you can't do while on the trail. Also, most historical cowboys were general purpose fuckups who could not make a living in society. That's the part of cowboy culture that nobody talks about, but its just as prevalent as boots, chaps, and beat-to-shit hats. Hasn't changed in over a century. /descendant of cowboys who consistently fought a hell of a lot harder than they ever drank

I don't like smokin. Never been my thing. So that just leaves sippin. - Clippin bolts CAN go with the occasional beer, but only on rainy days. - Bouldering and bourbon are a match made in heaven (AKA Kentucky). The brown liquor seems to keep the pain at bay nicely. - And gear don't go well with any intoxicant. IMHO.

Most who have smoked marijuana more than few time will agree that pot is the lesser of the two evils. Only those that that haven't will say that pot is evil. If you want to know the truth about marijuana vs. alcohol ask pot users and you will find what the real story is. If you want lies ask the government.

On the rare occasion, pot has helped me overcome some of my climbing inhibitions. It doesn't always work out that way, however, and I've found that my smoking has had a notable and negative effect on my lungs.

My opinion is this, I will not climb under the influence of any mind altering substance nor will I climb with someone who is. But after the climb sitting around the campfire, nothing is better for the post bowl cottonmouth than an ice cold beer. And as for the munchies I say bugles (do they still make those?)

On the initial subject, none of the substances are good for climbing, or for anything else.. Having said that I indulge in both of them... Dope is dead cheap around here, and so is beer ;) I find that alchohol leads to excessive confidence an poor attention to detail, whereas dope leas to lack of confidence in perfectly safe enviroments.. Just my personal experience..

Hee hee hee..."co-mingle"!. Booze might make belaying more fun (as in a beer or two, not the whole flat) for sport, but since alch is a depressant theres no way your muscles pull as hard after drinking. On the cannibis issue, Ive never been much of a pot smoker but if you really want to feel like superman maybe a big fat line would do the trick...

Alcohol, however wonderful valuable it may be in nearly every other moment of our lives, isnīt well paired with climbing. Booze dehydrates you, and tendons donīt do well if theyīre dehydrated, donīt ya know. I used to smoke before climbing, but iīve quit the habbit. Now all I use is my ipod; I can control if I want a rush or a low, itīs all natural, more powerful, and it doesnīt cost me a thing.

I enjoy a beer or two whilst bouldering on a hot day...anything to keep me from climbing and in the shade ya know? Other forms of climbing i remain sober...gotta keep the wits about me. Beer is for afterwards.

Haven't smoked for several weeks and I have noticed my strength skyrocket while bouldering. If weedsmokers think it enhances climbing, it does. It doesn't enhance peformance. If you don't believe me, eat a giant brownie and see how much hand strength you have after it kicks in. Ice cold beer is the secret to killing cottonmouth. Bugles are good too....
