I can get the fat basturd bad for 130 but the mad pad seems like a good deal for the money. Never really been into bouldering but I am planning on using this as a mattress too for the back of my truck to sleep on for over 3 months. Can the Fat basturd be turned into a couch?

Niether are quite big enough to sleep on alone. If you pad the feet, you'll be fine. I don't know about the couch thing but the Metolius is a much nicer pad.

If you just plan on using it as a mattress, then just try to find someone getting rid of a futon and take the pad, I had one folded nicely in the back of my car for a while and it was good sleeping

I have a triple mad pad. I don't do much bouldering either, so it hasn't gotten used much. It's softened quite a bit since I bought it, and I assume it will keep softening. In other words, it's kinda crappy. I wanted something wide enough to cover the entire space below my home wall, and it worked well for that, but I wouldn't waste my time on a mad rock pad again unless the circumstances were weird like mine.

It doesn't easily convert into a couch (you'd have to do some modifications) and is not big enough for a person of average size to sleep on. That said, if you can get two pads, its pretty comfortable. Also of note: the top layer of the fat bastard is pretty stiff, so you should flip the pad over when you sleep on it.

No, it sucks to sleep on. I have one and its an OK pad but its a bit stiff and the surface of the landing area seems a little slick to me. Get a taco style soft pad if you want to use it to sleep on as well. But understand any pad you sleep on will get a depresion in the area your laying for hours on end. Witha bigger pad at least you could switch sides to lessen the impact of the sleep hours on it. It might be a good idea to get the used futon for the truck and have a pad just for bouldering.

Can the Fat basturd be turned into a couch? how tall are you? if you were a midget, the fat b would work.

If you're looking for a pad to boulder with stay as far away from mad rock as possible. Actually you should stay far away from pretty much all mad rock gear. All their pads are good for is breaking ankles and folding into chairs. If you are seriously trying to find a pad big enough to sleep on and use for bouldering then your best option would be the metolious behemoth. Pricy compared to the other two, but definitely worth it when you climb or sleep on it. BD mondo might be big enough to sleep on, but i'm not really sure.

The biggest Organic pad is pretty cush too. Not at all cheap (its the priciest of its size range, by a considerable margin), but worth every penny and good for sleeping on, if you're not much taller than 5'9".

Are the organic big pads that big? If so then definitely get the organic pad. Organic is so sick. Best foam and just overall pads ever! worth the price for sure

Any pad can be made into a couch.... just prop it up against something. The mad pad couch thing is a gimmick. The fat bastard pad is much better for climbing too.

Fat Bast Turd. Maybe durrable enough to use as a sleeping pad, not as a crash pad. Foam sucks. Get the Mad Rock or the more expensive Metolius pad.

I really like my Mad Pad, I've had a for a few years and while I only Boulder from time to time the foam is still in great shape. I use it as a camping chair by the fire a gimmick I really enjoy. Wish I would have gotten the triple it would fit nicely in a tent to sleep on.
