Has anybody ever climbed in Quetico Park. I'm planning a canoe trip there this summer and would like to climb.

I haven't climbed in quetico, but I've spent some time up there, where are you headed? I can see taking shoes and a chalk bag, but unless you have a proj picked out, it seems like alot of extra gear to portage for the chance of climbing.

I've gone out of Beaverhead before and over to Quetico Lake. I remember a few cliffs, but that was before i was a climber.

If you are heading in from the Gunflint, there are cliffs on Daniels and Rose. I remember dorking around on the former in the 70's. There is also a BIG cliff across Rose; never been there.

I was in the Boundary Waters and Quetico (illegally) a few years ago. Lac La Croix had some cliffs, probably Canadan Shield bedrock. They are completely undeveloped but I don't know about access. The one thing I do know is that there are many paintings done by Natives. I'm just overly-superstitious, but I think it's bad luck to do anything near them, although if you leave an offering of tobacco, it's supposed to negate the bad karma.

I've DWS some at Ottertrack Lake. One cliff line goes 60+ feet on some pretty solid hand cracks. There are plenty of boulders that pose a hazard but they are ten+ feet underwater. I DWS mainly to cliff jump out there. Alot of the cliffs up there are deep into the wilderness so be careful. I've guided 2 trips up there and we came out with a broken arm the first time and a broken scapula/collar bone the next year. Make sure you take a fishing rod. Check out the Falls Chain it's amazing. Watch out for poorly-led destructive boyscouts too, they're everywhere in August.

I was talking to an ex Outward Bound instructor and park warden two days ago who told me that they used to climb in the park in the 70s. Lots of good areas apparently. Where in the park I have no idea though.
