Hey, I work at a summer camp, and we are in the process of building a climbing tower. It is going to be a three sided wooden structure built on telephone poles, using 2x6s for the faces. My question is to whether or not we can simply bolt the 2x6s directly to the poles or if we need some additional framing behind them for strength or support. I know that was really brief and not descriptive, but if anyone knows what I am talking about, and has any experience with something like that, I would really appreciate some input. Or, dose anyone know of a good web site that might tell or show how that's done. Well, thank you.

Depends on how far apart the poles are. Most of the towers I've worked on have a line of boards running vertically in between the poles (on the inside) and the middle of each horizontal board is screwed/bolted to this center board. Also, using tongue-and-groove boards will help to keep any warping from making the boards stick out and creating a gap that little fingers might try to use. Check with these guys for more info: http://www.acctinfo.org/
