I don't know if this has already been done, but I figured a chart of camming ranges for the popular cam brands would be useful. If you find any mistakes or think another line of cams should be added, let me know. You can filter out certain cams by selecting all rows to be hidden and hiding them (via right click menu). I might make a chart of passive pro too if there is enough interest. [edit] Updated to include DMM 3CUs and 4CUs. Updated to include Old Style Camalots (including Micros) Updated to include Metolius Master Cams.

very neat. Any chance of throwing the old camalots on there as a comparison to the c4s? I could probably do that on my own, but since you have such a nice thing going....

I wanted to add the older camalots but I can't find a range chart. If a link is posted I can definitely add them. Working on DMMs now.

There's a link to a great range chart I used to use on tradgirl.com. It's a few years old, but it had about a dozen different cam brands on it. I'll see if I can track it down for you. GO

Sweet chart! Do you have any objections to me creating a web version of this? It'll be easier to add filtering so you can do side-by-side range comparisons, etc.

awesome work! Not sure if you had a chance to look at this data here... attached. Basically provides for the optimum range of the cams. Unlike passive gear range, which is optimal range, active gear range needs to be reduced by some ratio to arrive at the optimal placement range. I can't remember the website I got it off.

Yep, any chart for cams that just offers minimum and maximum is pretty useless -- makes for pretty graphs but not helpful when assembling a rack for the real world. But a fixed ratio doesn't really work either since not all cams use the same ratio.

How about an option to view it in inches for those who are metric-a-phobic?

A fixed ratio's help isn't definitive. But having the idea that a ratio of the range listed in the mfr's catalog isn't useful range, helps put together your rack more efficiently. Ofcourse, if one could make the optimal range chart more definitive, the efficiency could be improved.

Probably this one? http://www.clydesoles.com/Front/Camsbrand.html it's been around for years

You probably noticed that the Master Cam data is different from the previous Metolius cam data (TCUs and Power Cams). The data for the other Metolius cams have now changed on the Metolius website to match the Master Cam data. However, when I contacted Metolius about this they said the cams themselves have not changed. They've just changed the way they report those sizes. The maximum size reported is less than the actual mesurement of the cam when fully expanded. I'm currently in communication with Metolius to better understand the reasons behind the change.
