Climbing in San Diego area in mid-april?

I have a couple of free days in San Diego (from Wednesday afternoon, April 16th, to Friday, April 18th), after a busness part of the trip is over, and before I head out to Joshua Tree for the weekend Sterling GotR event.

I won't have a partner. Or a place to stay.

I don't climb trad. (though I want to learn-- hence going to the Sterling trad clinic)

How realistic is it to find someone to sport climb with on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday? Where is a good place to climb in San Diego area (within couple hours)?

Anyone wants to give me a place to stay or climb with me?

The best local sport climbing would be El Cajon Mt, but be prepared for a 1.5 hour hike.

I heard the Poway crags have been recently reopened, but have never been there so I can't comment.

Mission Gorge has some sport routes and some areas to set up a top rope.

Further away is Big Rock in Perris.

Not sure. A climbing partner was talking about it Sunday. Said he called and was told there were no restrictions.

So, do any of those areas have a hanging-out/camping place where it is possible to partner up with someone for a day?

B/c the first thing I need is a partner :)

You'll have a hard time just finding partners at any San Diego areas.

How hard do you climb? Are you bringing gear?

San Diego has three excellent sport climbing areas - El Cajon Mountain, Corte Madera, and Eagle Peak. None of them have frequent weekday visitors, and only El Cajon Mountain gets frequent weekend visitors this time of year. The other areas are just as good, if not better, but wholly underappreciated.

You may also want to consider checking out Mt Woodson. There's a unique selection of high quality, short cracks there. Most are a bit too high to boulder, but a short rope and a few pieces of gear will let you TR or lead a lot of stuff. If you need some beta, PM me and I can try to help.

With a little knowledge about how hard you climb (lead/follow), I can throw a message out to some friends to see if anyone is free to climb with you.

Good luck!
