Adjustable Aiders---->Russian Aiders?

Hi, I'm not in this neck of the woods very often, now I've got a question.

I recently bought a set of Adjustable Aiders because they will work well with tree climbing, photography, and are light and simple. They're not the best for aid from what I've heard, which I didn't think to much about since I don't do that much. Now that I've got them though, I've started thinking.

Has anyone ever made them into makeshift Russians? At home, I cinched them down so the keylock biners were down just below the knee, and wrapped the long tail around my leg many times in such a way that it was reasonably comfortable and secure. In the real world I would tape the gate open. Unless I discover/decide this is a bad idea, I'd get a couple more daisies to use as a trees, 2 per side.

How uncomfortable would this be, or how much aiding could you accomplish with this? The prow on Cathedrel?

I saw that. Right now my thoughts are that they would be good for that little bit on a free route, used normally. But for doing a wall, I think I could improve on the one in that link. For tree climbing, we sometimes use spurs, and mine are molded fiberglass with good foam that spreads the load across the shins. Something like this could be made for the calves, and can be secured with with what I already have......
