Hi! Hello! Howareya! Here it comes: the 2008 New River Rendezvous, the rootinest tootinest rendezvous this side of the sun. There are a few new elements this year, and if you're not ready for them... well, just be ready for them. The biggies:

1. Pre-Registration is required
We'll have an online registration system with a finite number of registrants. Starting March 1, we will register 700 people for this year's event. If you plan on coming, act now by visiting the website. The cost is $25.

2. Parking passes are limited
The NPS has limited the number of cars that will be able to enter Burnwood. We will issue car passes, and we strongly encourage you to carpool with as many people as possible. Rent a van, a bus, start a taxi service... do whatever it takes.

3. We're going green... very green
Help us set a new national standard for how to produce an event of this size sustainably! If you want to eat, bring a plate. Want a drink? Bring a cup. And when it's all over, bag up your own trash and take it home with you, recycling as much as possible. In short, we are going totally NO WASTE.

Visit the NRR website, http://www.newriverrendezvous.com, for details and email maura@waterstoneoutdoors if you have any questions.

I went to the website to register, and it directed me to Active.com registration. The registration costs $25, after an initial yearly membership price of $49. Is this correct? Is there also a $25 donation fee to the park service in addition to this? That would be about $100 total. I don't mind donating money to the NPS, but paying for an active.com membership?

Is this right j_ung, or am I missing something?

Hmm... Should just be the flat $25, which goes to NRAC. I think the $49-and-change is for an optional Active.com registration, which knocks, like $2 of the registration price. But if it seems like its making you pay more than that, definitely drop Maura an email at the above addy.

Oh wait, I think I know what happened. Make sure you select option C, which is "Register as Guest" or something similar.

After the good time I had with this last year I really want to go back for this year.

Problem: work sucks. Tons of over time. I'm currently trying to see about getting Easter off, I don't know if they'll be too keen about letting me take both the Easter and Victoria day (Canadian holiday, which the Rendezvous tends to land on) weekends off.

Frown

I will follow this thread, wishing and hoping for that weekend off, but currently not planning for it. Unsure

Hey J_ung normally Active charges a fee to register online for any event. So people should expect to pay a small amount more than the 25-dollar entrance fee.

Unless somehow ENRAC convinced Active to donate that expense for them listing the event and collecting the monies. If so then a lot of competitors from other activities are going to be pissed.

I typically pay 5 or more per event that I register online for. That adds up to about 75 bucks a year for all my bicycle races.

Ok...well i just signed kuperkutie and me up for the 08' Rendezvous. It will be our 1st time being able to make it. As some people have mentioned the online registration is somewhat of a bitch. I am succesfully registered but it refuses to let me print out my reciept. It will not allow me to acces that page b/c i'm not an Active.com member. So I have the e-mails sent confirming our payment, then the e-mail confirming my registration. Question is if this is good enough? I e-mailed Active.com's support and I am waitin on an answer. Also, my wife and I are leavin Morgantown on Friday and might have an extra space in the ride if anyone needs a lift. Should be fun!!!

Setting up an account with Active is free.

What the yearly membership includes is a discounted rate on online registration. So if you plan on using Active for several events thru the year it might be cheaper to become a member. If not then don't.

So what that means is set up an account but do not become a member.

You will get an account number and every time you register for an event Active sends a confirmation email.

If you have emails with confirmation of registration then just print those out. They will include a registration number in the text.

I don't think I will be there this year, but I think I will send a donation to NRAC anyways. I will hopefully be down there getting use out of the area at other times this year.

I just signed myself and 3 of my friends up. We're so excited. And, I got into the Chris Lindner clinic, which is awesome. I'm just about to start my sport climbing journey anyway (been climbing for about 6 months) and I can't think of a better way. Can't Wait!!!

What day did you get in to chris's clinic? My wife kuperkutie is in on saturday. I'm doin the trad 4 chickens with Malcolm. It's good to hear there will be some other people that are new to sport climbing like her in the clinic too. I think the limiting the number of attendees will make for less madness. Should be a good time. What would be really cool to post on here is some advice for Rendezvous virgins like myself. You know, stuff to bring, cool stuff to get into, how 2 stay out of trouble, is the campground secure (do I have to worry about someone jackin my rack/stuff), any heads-up would be awesome. Thankz.....

I have been there the last few years and never had a problem with people trying to get into any of my stuff. Although, i think a few items were stolen two years ago from one of the tents that a company had set up. Be sure to be there for the sumo contest and dyno comp. they are a lot of fun, and they usually throw a bunch of free stuff into the crowd. I will be in the trad 4 chickens clinic as well. see ya there!

Cool man. My wife's name is Jenn (kuperkutie on rc.com). She has toproped a bunch of sport routes up to 5.8 but never led anything. I'm sure that she is nervous about taking that 1st lead fall. I'm hoping Chris has you guys start out on some 5.6 - 5.7 stuff as I'm sure she could handle that range to start. The biggest problem we are having is who gets what gear. I already called the GriGri and she is cool on her Cinch, but the rest is a shootup. My main problem is draws....I only have enough for me Cool. I guess b/c of her I'm gonna have to buy more draws.....sweet. If you think you are ready to go, I think my wife is already packed. P.s. I will be sneakin into PA to smuggle some Yuengling down....so anyone in mine or kuperkutie's clinic feel free to tag along after for some beers.....

My hubby and I are going for the first time as well, and we're in the Trad for Chickens class too :o) Yuengling eh? Hm, mabe I should have some microbrews on hand too for post-chicken-partying :o)

And given that she's just getting into sport climbing, I think SHE should get the new draws ;o) But I'm biased, I like shiny things.

Don't forget its Leave No Trace, so be sure to bring PLENTY of garbage bags for trash and recycling. And an extra roll of TP just in case. And an altoids tin to ccarry around and stick small stuff in (cig. butts if you smoke, or just random stuff that ends up being litter). And empty water jugs to carry out your grey water from dishes or emptying beer cans - dumping it on the ground does not mean it's not still there somewhere!
