Rock climbing in Red River Gorge exists on a mixture of private and public land. On the verge of the spring 2008 climbing season climbers are reminded to know who owns the land and to respect the appropriate rules. Not respecting the rules resulted in the closure of Torrent Falls to climbing. The Torrent Falls closure remains in effect. Most recently not respecting the rules regarding dogs resulted in dogs being banned from Muir Valley beginning in 2008. Basic rules for Leave No Trace climbing are posted on the Daniel Boone National Forest website at - http://www.fs.fed.us/.../climb_impacts.shtml. Consult the guidebook Red River Gorge Climbs by Ray Ellington for specific information about land ownership and rules along with route specific and area closures. Thank you, RRGCC Board of Directors
