Loading the google ads seems to be the root cause of the problem.

Hmmm. Damned google.

Nope, me too. At home and at work (different computers).

It seems to be the photos and the header that are hanging up.

There is a solution to that: the rc.com Supertweak. As of January, when I wrote up the instructions, the Supertweak blocked queries to all adservers used by rc.com, resulting in the fastest possible page loading times. Since then, rc.com has added yet another adserver, which the Supertweak doesn't block. On my own machine I run an updated Supertweak, which blocks queries to the new adserver as well. I haven't written up instructions for the updated version, since virtually no interest was shown for the first version. Nonetheless, the original version, instructions for which can be found here should block most adserver queries and speed up page loading substantially.

Jay

PS This only works on Windows.

Um, you mind making that new code generally available?

Just to clarify, this is the Supertweak I'm talking about, which involves using the Proxomitron proxy, not the plain vanilla rc.com Tweak. Are you actually using Proxomitron/Supertweak? If so, I'll write up instructions for the New Supertweak.

No, this site is the most fucked up of all the sites. And although I appreciate the time JT512 puts into suppressing ads, I don't need some fuckin Supertweak. I used to live in Jtree and I had supertweakers crawling up the walls.

I think this is obscure enough to post online.

my bad... only Tweak.

but now that you mention it... supertweak kind of sounds like a winner. too bad it won't work globally in my firefox environment. only here on rc. damn.

Thanks for the hint.
Just configured ABP for this site. Under preferences, click "add filter", then type in "www.rockclimbing.com" and apply. Hope this helps someone else.

One of the main problems seems to be a javascript that is slowing down browsers and generally causing havoc. If you've got adblock or adblock plus, add the following to your filters:

If Rockclimbing is too slow you should read Hans Florine's Speed Climbing book. He has a lot of helpful tips for moving fast.

One common problem is that people will place gear every 6-8 feet no matter what. Perhaps you should try running it out on sections where you know you won't fall.

Simul-Climbing is another good way to get moving quick. Just be sure you know what you're doing.

Hopefully this helps

Interesting. I'm not having any trouble at all. In fact, RC.com continues to be one of the fastest sites I visit. Fasterfox typically shows between 3 and 5 seconds per page. I'm using Tweaks.
