Hello guys! I am going to be on a business trip in Fort Worth for two weeks... lots of free time. Which is the best place for climbing in the area? Thanx!

if you want to stay close go to mineral wells state park. If you don't mind a 3 to 4 hour drive go to Austin its much better

Well there isn't much choice when in Fort Wort. You have Mineral Wells State Park (45 minutes) which is about as bad as it gets. You can drive to Enchanted Rock state park (4 hours) which is west of Austin. E-Rock has granite domes with mixed trad and some sport routes. If you have a long weekend I highly recommend it. You could also go to Reimers Ranch (4 hours) which is also west of Austin. Reimers is short limestone sport walls. You could drive out to Hueco Tanks (9/10 hours). It is a long drive but I hear it is worth it. If you want to make a trip up to Oklahoma then you can go to Wichita Wildlife Refuge (3 hours) or Quartz Mtn (4 hours). Both Granite and more intense than E-Rock. JB

Reimers is cool, and there is also some neat bouldering around there. A new guidbook came out that would probably be able to help you figure out where you want to go, i think its called texas limestone? either way you should stay away from enchanted rock though.

Why stay away from enchanted? It is a beautiful place with tons of climbing on great granite. There is also alot of great bouldering if he can not find a climbing partner. Here is a link to some guides. http://www.erockonline.com/guidebooks.htm JB

So will you be in Ft Worth Memorial Day weekend? I plan on being in Dallas 5/22- 5/27 and would like to check out some places nearby (well within 4 hours or so to go climb). Let me know if you are interested. Brooke

Hey! I went to Enchanted Rock to do some trad and to Pace Bend to do some DWS. Awesome places! really easy to get to them to! Just rent a car with a GPS. Is really cheap. You should go to Stone Works Indoor Rock Climbing Gym and try to hook up with Adam or Mr. Cook. Great guys!
