caleb_danner wrote: does anybody have any good fall stories The Headless Horseman always has struck me as a fall story. Maybe it's a Halloween kind of connection. Consider that giving an informative speech requires good communication skills. You might think about starting with your writing style.

Taking to other climbers out with me to learn how set stuff up rather than guessing. Above you state that you're "doing the research before I get myself killed." By asking us to do your research: you're not doing any research at all. One more thing: Just when you think you have done enough research...you really havnt researched enough. A point will come where you realize nothing is final and there is always room to learn more.

recently gave a rock climbing presentation in italian. mine was about 20 mins, followed by Q&A. didn't try to tell all there's to know about climbing. turned out only one other person climbs, from the fifteen or so in the class. it helped to have kept everything on the introductory level: - photos of places climbed and types of climbing - what is free climbing, as opposed to free soloing or aid - bouldering, sport, trad - rope, its use, and falling - climbing a bolted route with draws - climbing cracks with gear - styles and ethics - what i like about climbing and why there's plenty more to climbing, of course. but that was enough for about 20 mins of talk time. i brought in a bolt and hanger, a sport draw, cams, nuts, tricam, hex, and a section of rope to demonstrate how the gear works as i spoke i didn't reference any web info or books. going with what you know can sometimes work too. or maybe i'm just even more lazy spero che questo sia di aiuto. buona fortuna

I second the advice for reading 'rock jocks'. There are some amazing stories in that book and if you're noob-ish it explains everything very well. Plus John Long has quality writing skills so maybe it will be a good example.
