I went to a new crag I'd been wanting to visit in Maryland for the first and probably last time. There was one route I wanted to lead, but couldn't because 1.) It was sopping wet. 2.) Some toolbag resuce squad choose this, the most popular route on the cliff, route to practice belay escapes/ascending to victim scenarios. Double whammy.
So we just TR'd some semi-dry lines and belayed my friend's daughter, an adorable 6 year old. She was scrambling around pretty good, it was fun to watch.
At one point I was messing with her a little bit by telling her to "use the wet holds because the rock is super clean." She turns and looks at me for a long second, and says (stone-cold serious) "I'm smarter than that, you know."

I enjoyed another weekend with my daughter. Had planned on getting out and at least going for a hike, but decided not to with the price of gas being what it is.

I didn't get up to much... still have only been on rock once since I was sick a whole year ago. I can't believe it's been almost a year since we were at the New? I wondered the other day how that guy is these days... the one who broke both ankles! Stupid boulderers!
Anyhoo... worked at the Wall a bit, climbed even less, ran a couple of miles, watched Enter the Dragon, got a bit of sun before the clouds rolled in and didn't rain! Prepared more for our Thailand trip. Climbing gear is mostly packed and almost ready to run out the door. 13 sleeps!!

We also climbed on Sat. We didn't go Sunday because Bec had to work and we were both pretty beat up from Sat. My back is still really sore.
Bec got to really see firsthand what 5.12 is all about.
Its was a really nice day on Sat. Despite the forecast rain never showing up. It was almost to warm in the morning, but cooled off in the afternoon. I climbed in shorts all day. The cliff was almost completely vacant. We saw two other groups all day and never shared a section of cliff with them.
We ended up climbing in a group of three since Party Girl wanted to sleep in then couldn't find us when she showed up. It would have been nice to have had four. So we could have climbed quicker, but we still went home a little early. Mostly because of the bugs though.

Yeah, that was the one time I've climbed outside since last year. I have bumbled around on the rockwall a fair bit, but that doesn't really count too much. I guess I'll see in a couple of weeks.

Yes, most kids are indeed smarter than me. This one in particular has a huge vocabulary for her age. She reminds me of Calvin from "Calvin & Hobbes."

The forecast was indeed screwed up (again) this weekend. I didn't plan much for Saturday due to the "rain," and went a little stir-crazy watching it get nicer and nicer. And Sunday it ended up moist when it called for sun. Go figure...
Shame on Toady for not showing up until late! I'm betting she was "hiking the Bruce trail" or something....

Wow, I forgot about that guy. I've got pics of his crazy messed up ankle, but I never put them on my photo site or anything.
*sigh* looks like no NRRendezvous for me this year. I really dropped the ball on that one. I should have told them that I had planned on going to this before I was trasferred to this position, but I then I got Easter off and I sat stupid and happy about getting one long weekend. Now its too late to say anything, they're planning to instal a new station on line and I've got to be there (the Rendezvous is Victoria Day weekend in Canada).
Fuck, I hate this job.
We had a good weekend, or at least Saturday. I think both Nathan and I got really beat up sport climbing.
