Red River Gorge Access - $5 is all it takes!

In 2004, the Red River Gorge Climbers' Coalition (RRGCC) purchased 700 acres of land located in the Southern Region and named it the Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve. With over 300 routes established so far, this area offers incredible climbing and many areas yet to be developed. Some well known crags include Drive By, Solar Collector, the Dark Side and many new crags including Purgatory, the Gallery, Volunteer Wall.

Each year we struggle to raise the $30,000.00 needed for the mortgage on the property. It is up to us, the climbers who love this land and the world-class climbing it offers, to contribute what we have.

I know many of us feel that we don't have much to give - but $5 CAN make a difference.

Did you know that the RRGCC has 257 myspace friends? And did you know that the site www.redriverclimbers.com has 3796 registered users? That's a lot of people who care about climbing in the Red – not even counting the people that love to climb here and don’t spend on one of those two sites!

Lets suppose for just a minute...
Let's suppose that 2/3 of the people registered on myspace are also registered at www.redriverclimbering.com. That leaves 85 people.

Let's suppose that out of the 3796 users at www.redriverclimbering.com that 3/4 of them have moved on to bigger and better things - or stopped climbing (heaven forbid!) That leaves 949 people.

And Let’s suppose that 100 people love climbing at the Red but aren't registered at either site.

Put them together and we have a group of about 1134 people that care about climbing in the Red.

Now here’s the fun part.

Let's suppose that each person donated a measly $5/month to the RRGCC - either through their bank's online banking or through the auto payment program at www.rrgcc.org.

Suppose everyone donated $5 a month for 1 year. That would be $68,040.

Now lets suppose they did that for 2 years. That's $136,080!!! That's paying off the PMRP in TWO YEARS instead of 5! That's ensuring that if we own it they can't close it!

And your donation is tax deductible.

So please don't wait. If you haven't already set up your monthly donation - check out www.rrgcc.org

The end is in sight!

In for $10/month... I like the idea of climber owned areas that can't be tagged with "NO TRESPASSING" signs Cool
