i usually just use whatever is handy. Most of the time i clip it to my harness w/ a biner (why on earth would you use a locker like the poll asks?). i have long arms so i can have it hanging low, even if there is no loop on the harness i can clip it to the elastic loop that you pull to tighten the risers for the leg loops.
sometimes i use a cord.
i dunno... i am used to climbing with the bare miniumu amount of gear so like i said above, i just do whatever makes sense at the time.
I climb mostly trad. I use 6 ft of 5.5 mm cord and keep a rappel ring in with the chalk. It always seems that a couple of times a year these items come in handy for setting up an unplanned for rappel. Also, since I climb a lot of wide cracks, I don’t want the chalk bag clipped to the harness.
I voted for the belt and buckle system, but I have in the past used an older locking biner to attach the bag in case I need to use it as a bail biner. One time I actually did and I was able to use an old locker instead of one of my fancy new ones.
When hooking up with new partners at Camp 4, a surefire way to avoid epics is to never climb with someone who uses a carabiner to attach their chalkbag.
Everyone who uses a carabiner to connect their chalkbag to their harness should be aware that attaching it to the leg riser and swami is not safe. The carabiner should only be attached to the belay loop to prevent cross loading.

People with chalkbags clipped to their harnesses obviously have never tried to climb a Valley chimney.
When clipping your chalk bag on your harness, only use notchless biners. Before climbing that chimney, it is easier to transfer the chalkbag from the haul loop to the belay loop.
why do people rag on carabiner people? It makes sense to me (clutter free harness area). What i don't get is the belt with the plastic buckles. If you carry your chalk on a full stregnth biner, cord, or sling, then you can use that for other purposes as well. Who here would trust that pice of plastic? not me.
Not to replace my lace midpitch if needed. Not to prussick up Bond style. Not to help find a vein.
None of that stupid worried ninny bs. It's just what I saw laying around when I was looking for something to attach my bag. Nothing more, nothing less.
I generally don't paddle up shit creek, when I do, I make god damn sure not to drop my paddle. It's certainly a better bet than carrying a spare paddle.
