I am sure that some of you have seen the quote, "13 RURPS and a bathook, what was the question" on the forums page... my question is, what WAS the question?

Sounds like the Triple Cracks pitch on the Shield. Or was that 35 RURPs?

Maybe that was 13 RURPS and a bathook for the infamous belay on the Sea of Dreams.

No, thats something like 5 rurps and a bolt.
Why not bring some beaks instead of all rurps. And most bathooks are er.

On the Sea, the infamous RURP belay is in a diagonal crack that is more horizontal than vertical.

RURPs work better in horizontals, beaks better in verticals.

At any rate, when the f.a was made Bird hadn't invented beaks yet!

And it was either four or five rurps, and one bolt. It's a famous photo in Yosemite Climber with Dale Bard smiling at the clove hitched RURPs. Of course they don't show the bolt in the photo!

Oh yeah, Bridwell's original RURPs are still in the crack, all busted off. [RURPs tend to "fix" very easily]

Well to answer the original post:

It went:

"If the answer is 13 rurps and a bathook, I don't want to know the question!!!"

I don't remember who said it, but that's it.

TRADitionally yours,

Cali Dirtbag
