Anyone have any suggestions for good cookin' on a big wall climb. Or do you all just bring those dried food meals along?
Any creative ideas out there for food?

thanx

I haven't done this climbing, but i have done it camping so it probably applies. You can make the jello (i think they are jello) no bake cakes in a nalgene using powdered milk in place of actual milk and they turn out pretty well.

Again, I haven't done any big walls, but I have alot of backpacking experience.

I get these cookie things...you put some water in a pan, put in some powder and simmer for 10 mins, then add some mix, make some balls and lay them out on the cookie sheet (Plastic bag everything came in) and let them sit for 20mins...they are really good!

I wouldn't bring freeze dried food. They are super easy to make (Just add boiling water to the bag...no dishes but a spoon!) but they are about $6 each...I'd only buy them if weight really mattered.

freeze dried food on walls is dumb - the cuisine has nothing to do with backpacking. most people don't bring stoves, though i will probably start doing that now that i have the chongo hauling ratchet dialed in. i usually just eat canned food - i really like the wolfgang puck soups as they are very tasty cold. i also like the hormel canned turkey, chicken, and ham particularly in tortillas with some cheese.

Chef Boyardi is the master wall chef! He has taken many varieties of fine italian cuisine and packaged it perfectly for wall climbers--in a can.

Cold canned food is the way to go. Carrying a stove is overkill in my opinion unless you'll be up there for a while. I'm sure others will disagree.

Good cookin? Maybe not. Dried food? Defenitely not!

That requires bringing a stove along. I'm not a coffee drinker and I will only bring a stove along if frozen weather is a possibility or if spending a very long time on a wall for mere comfort: tea, warm soup, etc.. When I say long time, I'm talkin a good week or more, which I haven't done yet. I have yet to spend more than 6 days from base to car.

I usually bring Campbell's Chunky soup as it's edible when cold, and various canned fruits for the main meals. Lots of little snacks supplement the wall cuisine as well.

Arg.

Do a word search before you post!

Here is an existing post that includes Dr. Piton's favourite big wall foods.
