In late June 2008 I flew into Paris (CDG) on Delta/Air France and was stopped at security re-screeing because I was carrying my rope as a carry-on. Wasn't stopped in U.S. (2 flights), but completely blew my connection in already disastrous Charles De Gaulle airport. Had to go back to counter and recheck. No cost 'tho. Be aware.

well not all ropes are used for climbing, last month i got a guy in my shop, who looked kinda french. he wanted a rope that didn't "stretched" but he hessitated to explain what he really was using the rope for... after a few mins he said " I'm going to use the rope to tie stuff... u know like girls" The whole store laughed their asses off but i can see why the airport suspects such stuff now!

Not just France, UK too. I barely made a flight after going back to re-check instead of forfeiting it.
