HI gang of generous climbing people!

I'm headed to Los Angeles Thurs July 24 - Mon July 28th and have a day or 2 free to do some climbing (most likely thurs and/or monday.

Anyone wanna recommend where to climb for a first-time visitor to L.A. I'll have a car (though i hear traffic is a nightmare!)

I climb trad in the 5.9 to 5.10 range depending on where we're talking about (just retruned from Squamish where i comfortably lead 10s but got spanked the year before in yosemite on 7s and 8s)

I'm comfortable leading 10s and maybe 11s on sport.

I'm a east-coast Gunks climber and have no idea what to expect for the L.A. area.

SOOOOO any help would be appreciated.

I'll be bringing a trad rack, draws and a rope.

Charlie

Charlie, depends on where in LA you are, what you want to do, and how much you're willing to drive.
If you're going to be in the eastern parts of town, Riverside/Ontario, you can reasonably get out to Tahquitz and Suicide. Where, due to the elevation, the weather is the best this time of year.
Otherwise you'll be wanting to climb early morn and or along the coast.
Driving is not so much a nightmare, as its relentless, and it pays to know when to travel.
Don

Hello,
I'm LA/Pasadena and would be happy to climb with you this weekend. There are lots and lots of options in a 2hr driving radius, and a couple of nice ones in about an hour. I have a rope & rack but no transportation. I'm happy to trad-lead 5.9s and sport-lead 5.11s. You can reach me by email at greghueyccc _x_at-*_ cosmology.name or by phone at home 626-396-9284. Oh, and the traffic is not generally bad except at rush-hour.

Later,
Greg Huey
