the other day I was in a specialty store for halloween. In the makeup section, there was this "liquid latex" stuff. If theres liquid latex, why not other rubber liquid products?
you could coat your feet with a liquid form of the rubber used on climbing shoes. it would be a custom fit for your foot, and much more sensitive than standard shoes.
What do you think? would it work?

wouldn't it be come off too easy? I'd imagine that you would have to stop in the middle of the climb and reapply a coat or two.

A lot of other rubbers come in liquid form, but it's got to be really hot. Most rubbers have high boiling points. Otherwise...idea still sounds bad.

Currently, I don't think it's a good idea. Someone should record the replies to this post though, because sometime in the future, someone IS going to invent something like this that DOES work well, and we'll all be thinking "Hmm, too bad I didn't invest in that back when that guy suggested it."

Wouldn't be able to edge, not stiff enough, and you would burn a lot of energy crimping your toes to hold edges etc.

well, i think if you could get a low boiling point latex sort of thing (something not too hot to dip your foot into) you could probably put that on, then buy a stealth C4 resole kit and put that on the bottom. that should give you some edging power. the original latex/rubber coat would give you enough insulation to put on the stealth. or if not i am sure you could find something to use to give it stiffness (some harder rubber you can use contact cement or somthing to put between the latex and the stealth to act as a midsole) this would essencially be making a custom shoe just for you; carefully cut it open with a sharp blade at the end of the day, and find a glue of some sort (super gloo, shoe goo, ect...) that you sould use to bind it up again to re-use it. the only thing is it would take a long time to get on/off so would only be practical for long sessions. but man would it be comfy... the posision of your foot in the original latex dip would determine the "last" of the shoe i.e. you can turn your toe down if you are doing steep stuff, crimp your toes for more performance, or leave your foot relaxed for long trad climbs. sounds like a great idea, i hope someone has the balls to try it.

I've got this two part urethane (like epoxy, but rubbery), and when it gets on you and cures, you stick like magic to almost anything. This would be better than any liquid latex, because it's stronger. And the lieyers in court could point out that there are cyanide components in it.

The liquid latex that you saw in the halloween shop is completley out of the question. It is designed to peel off when any fricion is applied to it, so if you did put it on your foot and try to climb, it would just peel off. Perhaps some other kind of rubber though!

i was at the hardware store the other day, and saw this liquid rubber that you can buy in gallons. its purpose is to dip the handle of your tools in to give them a good grip when working on your big block, or whatever you might be working on. but i was checking it out and thinking about this exact thing. this stuff goes on a lot thicker that that latex stuff at the costume shop. and it has some great friction. i think that this is the direction to go if you want to give this idea a shot. with a few modifications it could be a money maker.
oh, and a little suggestion. shave all the hair off your feet before you do this. cause when you take that rubber shoe off for the first time, there is no chance that those hairs are not gonna be ripped out.

if i am the only male who has to those straglers that shoe up on the toes from time to time i will be very surprised. whether people admit to it or not, there are hairs on your feet, sometimes visible, sometimes not

the liqiud rubber mentioned by calirockjock may be a good idea but i think that it may be a little too stiff. ifyou guys have ever senn the little plastic cap that goes over the end of a hole punch that's the type of rubber he was mentioning..besides i don't know if i would want to put that crap on my feet anyway

You don't necessarily have to put your foot in the rubber. You could make a plaster cast of your foot and then use that to form the higher temperature rubber. Then you could make C4 foot gloves.

Hey, I just thought of something, but you may have solved it. I was thinking that you probably wouldn't want to just put the rubber straight on your foot, as it would be alot like the old fashioned tar and feather routing. The rubber would block your pours (sp.?) and do some bad stuff to you. Wouldn't want that to happen. Perhaps if I had some money, I would try some of this stuff out!
