So I got my first ever apple a few weeks ago. Overall, it's a good computer. From my PC point of view, it sure seems like a pain in the ass sometimes but I'm getting the hang of using it for the most part. It sure doesn't lock up half as often as the PC, so that's cool.

Anyway, my question is about non-ipod MP3 player compatibility and emulator issues.

My apple is a few years old. It's a powerbook G4 with Mac OS X operating system version 10.4.11

All I want to do is download a few songs to my Sandisk Sansa MP3 player. It's one of the types that doesn't need a home computer. You can plug it into anything as long as it's got XP or higher. So basically, it doesn't work at all. I've gotten some songs off other computers but none off mine.

Ideas? This shouldn't be so complicated.

Sounds like the best bet is to try to get it to show up as a volume, then drag your music over to it. You could also try to find a version of softpc. The intel mac can do vmware or parallels.

When you plug the MP3 player's USB cable into your powerbook, open up Finder and look at the bar on the left-hand side. Hopefully the MP3 player will show up over there. You should be able to find a "Music" folder in there, and then just drag and drop your mp3 files into that folder

It's easier to make them clicky than to copy and paste.

Valarc, the MP3 player does not show up in finder, though it does charge. It's designed for XP or newer.

Bender, WTF, although with you that's par for the course.

D'OH! I know some of the older sansa's showed up as a fat32 volume on a mac. I haven't tried with one in a while, though. Just for shits and giggles, you might want to point finder at the folder /Volumes and make sure it isn't showing up in there. Sometimes finder is a bit glitchy about things showing up on the sidebar.

No worries. Mac's, and apple products in general, are great at doing what they do. But once you try get outside of that, it can get to be a pain in the ass for sure.
