Parents with Young Kids seek Same for Climbing

If you got 'em (kids) you know the problem. It seems like all of your climbing friends are still single. It's hard to commit to a climbing partner for the season because you can't be gone every weekend to climb. It's hard to bring the kids to the crags and expect non-parents to keep vigilant watch while you're on rope. And, kid friendly cragging areas are few and far between.

So, I'm hoping to find parents who climb (or used to before they had kids) and would like to associate with same to enable more climbing for all.

I envision periodic outings where we can help each other out. Like a cragging day where we can all get some climbing in between watching the little ones. Or perhaps, weekend outings where one parent from each family hangs out while the other goes off and climbs. Or how about Moms-only or Dads-only get aways?

If you're interested, drop me a line. We live in the Bay Area, but we often get up to the Sierra's and (used to at least) get down to Red Rocks and J-Tree in the colder months. Climbing at the gym or local crags is good, too.

Experience level is not relevant, just the desire to get out and climb.

About six months ago this same theme came up in Southern California. I responded with interest, but only once have I gotten out with one of the people who responded, and he didn't bring his kids. Mine had a great time (7 and 3), both of them and my wife climbed.

The best area for this is either Joshua Tree or Lone Pine, so if you can make it down to Southern California, give me a jingle (aka pm).

B,

I have two boys 6 and 4 who have both expressed intrest in climbing. My wife does not climb, but the boys and I would love to join you in JT next time your down.

The older one has top roped before but the younger has not climbed. They can both handle most easy 3rd class approaches.

drop a line if your interested

I live near Lodi. Mostly climbed Joshua Tree before Kids. I have two boys 7 and 4 that I will be teaching. Looking at Mt Diablo or Consumnes River soon. Been to Pipeworks in Sacramento.

I also live near Loodi with two kids 6 and 10- I have taken them to Cosumnes River good place- Hwy 4 and 88 and 108 also have kid friendly places. Mosdesto still has a small gym I think, not sure I don't do the gym thing.

I will have to remember that. Not sure of the snow conditions up there at consummnes. Next week its supposed to rain. I may hit up Pipeworks again in February with the boys to boulder the walls. Spring break in March, I may see about heading out to the crags. If you do not mind I will PM you to check if you may be interested in taking your kids some time.

No problem with Cosumnes River now- way below snow line. On south facing crags up to about 4000 ft all is good. There is a tiny bit of bouldering around Hogan lake if you know where to look 45 min from Lodi. We will hopefully be skiing and climbing during our March break so shoot me a PM. I have the same break as the kids.

Give me a shout in the spring. Took my family up to Lone Pine in December and it backfired on me, toooo friggging cold.

For them, that is.
