12,000 calories a day! That is CRAZY. Its not rock climbing I know. But from a fittness perspective... 12,000 calories a day. He is a jet engine.

He also swims - hard - about 8-10 miles each day. That's more energy expenditure than running a marathon each day, I suspect.

I've met Appalachian trail thru-hikers on a 9000 calorie/day diet. And they wern't trying to be the best in the world at anything. The most impressive thing though was seeing one guy eat a large pizza in about 15 mins, then get up and order a second one to take back to his tent.

Thats weird because on tv when they had an interview at his house or whatever, he said he ate 8,000 to 10,000 calories a day. So you think that article is just streching the truth or what?

I wondered that too, partially because half of the article was covered up by advertisements... I think he usually eats 8-10,000 calories a day, but during the olympics, he ate more. I could be totally wrong though.

I have a caving buddy who was on the US swim team in the early to mid-60s. He was large guy. He told me when he was in competition, he was on a 10,000 calorie a day diet. Needed home made protein shakes (no prepared stuff in those days) to get enough calories. Unfortunately, he found it very hard to pare down to a normal caloric intake when he stopped competing. One day, after a long cave trip (15 hours or so), we stopped for breakfast. 4 of us. Three of us ordered. J then said: "I'll have what they are having". Waitress says: "Which one ?" J says, "All of it." TS

I was training very hard for a marathon 8 months ago and one of the hardest parts was eating enough. I would scarf down tons of stuff and still lose weight. I dropped to 144 lbs. and I'm 6'1. The worst part of it was that I lost my desire to drink beer. After a hard run, the last thing I wanted was anything but water. On the plus side, my tolerance plummeted and I'd get a buzz off of two. He may eat 12,000 calories a day, but it is the ham sammies that give him the edge.

I'm not at all surprised by the intake. When I was running track professionally I had to do at least 8000 per day just to maintain my weight, and I'm a sprinter not endurance. That shizz is way harder than running 200 meters all out.

I have to try HARD to not eat way too much. Fuck- I could eat 12k a day, I'd be fat as sh!t but I'd get it down and keep it down, and be happy about it.

I hover around 4,000 calories a day even when I'm not doing much of anything. Soon as I start exercising seriously, that goes wayyy up.

I'm a snacker, a lot of what I eat is cookies, fruit and veggies, then I have a big dinner. I don't eat what most people would call a full breakfast or lunch.

That number is not crazy, insane or even nuts. If you are a calorie burning machine that is a good number. Once upon a time when I was at the top of my game at 170 at 5'6" I was consuming that plus.
