I'm putting together a heading kit and i was wondering if anyone had a preference for making their own chisels or buying a chisel set from FISH. I noticed the FISH lanyards appear to be stiff wire and i was thinking things might fit better in a bag or hang better if the leash was cord instead of wire. if people favor making their own, what type of chisels should i buy. also, what modifications would you make to the store bought chisels. thanks.

Fish intends that you clip them into the end of our daisy. I have his cheapo set (no sharp chisel), and after a bunch of trips I've yet to have to bust it out, so I can't comment on the pros or cons.

The Fish set is great. like pmyche said, it's worth it for the little things. Using cord on your head kit is a bad idea. You can brake the cord with one good slip of the hammer,or over time with wear and tear, that's why you want it done with wire.
