Climbers, answer the following questions:

at what percentage do u stay in when it is supposed to rain?

(tomorrow i can climb in the morning but it has 30chancei n the morning and 50 in the afternoon.)

U look at weather stations and they tell you a rain percentage what your cut off point to not climb?

>40% and I stay in unless it is <50% and scattered, and then I may go out. Otherwise, I stay in with that much rain.

i like to think a 30% chance of rain is also a 70% of no rain. 30% and scattered? well then, what's stoppin ya?

Depends on what kinda rain you are talking about.

here in AZ you have close to a 100% chance of afternoon thunderstorms in the middle of monsoon season (specially up in the higher elevations). Generally it wont stop me from goin. just might try to finish earlier in the day to avoid the downpour.

Learn how to "read" the weather in your area and stop relying on those weather forecasts. Use it all together to come to a decision.

To answer your question, it totally depends on what kind of climbing I am looking at doing. If it's just cragging then who cares what the forecast is. A bit of drizzle is no biggy, just suck it up and wait a few minutes to see if it passes. If it's not enough to wet the rock then you are good to go.

If there is a good chance of rain then I just crag.

Rain? What's that?

Oh! That stuff we make snow with in winter? Tain't rained here in, um (counting on fingers) more than 5 months, not one drop.

Over the years? I've raced the rain, given in to the rain, embraced the rain, become one with the rain and nearly frozen to death in the rain. Any more?

When it rains I start fingering the edges of my skis!

For you, Aceto, I don't think you should climb if there's 1% chance...considering how much you love to solo. What are you doing using chalk anyway? That's aid!

Depends on the area for me. I'll go to the New River if there is a 50% chance of rain cause it is so unpredicable there, but if it is 50% chance at the Gunks I'll stay home.

You must learn to read the inside of the posts, my fiend, only then can you also read the meaning of the post.
He says that the rain cleanses his fingers of the chalk left by others. no aid.

Depends on what type of weather that accompanies the rain and where you are. If I were climbing at Superstitions east of Phoenix, if there were more than a 10% chance of rain, I would skip going. But if I were climbing North Shore Lake Superior, I'd go even if the chances were over 50%. In one place you'd die if it started raining, in the other place you'd just walk back to your car a few feet away.

Ah, indeed, I believe you just might be right.

Need to look at chances and amount. 70% chance of drizzle isn't much to worry about, 80% chance and 10mm of rain, I'm staying home.

Around here thunder storms brew and blow in off from Lake Ontario (typical from all the Great Lakes it seems). A quick glance at the radar will tell you if there's a system moving through or just small pockets of storms blowing through.
