we're headed out to new river gorge for the week before thanksgiving. A)i was wondering what the weather is like there this time of year, and whether or not the campgrounds are open. and B) whats the best campground to stay at just for simple tent camping? is there somewhere that most of the climbers stay? We`re looking for somewhere that is close to new river gorge.

Thanks!

It's gonna be chillay. Definitely would suggest warm clothes, handwarmer packets, and a Coleman propane heater if you wanna throw down some cash. Rogers at Kaymoor seems to be the default answer, but if it's really cold and you're still deadset on spending the night, it might be worth your while to consider trying to find a cheap motel.

Just got home yesterday from the New. Definitely suggest warm clothes, etc. The Quality Inn is right off 19 and close to the climbing areas. Also close to great dining in Fayetteville. Two nights stay was $120 with AAA discount. We researched camping before we left and found that all of the campgrounds have shut off their water for the season. Rogers is rustic, but cheap and a short hike down to the Kaymoor climbing area.

There is a campground (free) on the upper NEW called Stone Cliff. Its roughly a 20min. drive to the bridge from there... I enjoy staying here because it is beautiful and a little off the beaten path.
