I'm looking to pick up a new pair of shoes for bouldering/sport and heard that either the Dragons or Talons would be a good choice. Anyone know of any pro/cons comparing the two?I wont be doing alot of smearing so i dont think the talons like of smearing will be a big factor. I think I would like the secure feeling of a full lace this time as oppose to a slipper or velcro(My last pair was a set of Evolv Defy's)Any other suggestions similar to the two stated above?

How so from the reviews i've read both are radically down turned shoes good for steep to over hanging routes?I've seen both shoes being used frequently for both bouldering and sport climbing.

Buy whichever model fits better.

Having tried both though, I prefer the Talon. Both have great toe boxes, but the heel on the Talon works much better for me. The Talon also feels a little more "secure" when fully laced up, and is more comfortable than the Dragons in my opinion.

How do you like the rubber they covered the toe with? Is it gimicky or does it really work while hooking, scumming, etc.

Both shoes seemed fine with toe hooking and whatnot. Then again, you can toe hook in socks if you try hard enough.

Unfortunately we carry neither at the moment. We have been mulling over the idea of selling the dragon, but I am doubtful at this point.

Do you carry anything similar to what I'm looking for? I know of all the places to get shoes in VA and the only other place i can think of is the other rock gym in Richmond, peak performance or something.

If you are looking for lace-up, we carry the sportiva Testarossa's and Miura's, both of which are excellent shoes. If you wanted to try velcro the Solutions and velcro Miura's would also be good choices. The Testarossa's and Solutions are the most radically downturned and geared towards what your looking for. We will soon be selling the Five Ten Jet 7's as well, which is quite close to a velcro version of the Dragon's.
