It really pisses me off when people I go climbing with smoke at the crag. For one, if your reaction time is slowed then you are not belaying me. For two, I often hear them talking about how they "need" to work up the courage to climb a route.
If your bouldering then it does not bother me.

Is weed smoking prevalent at your local crag? Is it looked down upon or accepted? Do you feel that it is idiotically unsafe or that it is merely a performance enhancer?

Alpinist issue X. There's a whold article on weed and climbing.

Ya the same can be said for crags in BC. The 'BC bud' thing is a farce.

That's "ad nauseum"

It's not "prevalent", as folks just keep it to themselves. But it's here.

Is it accepted? Of course. If someone has a problem with it, what are they going to do, call the non-present cops? Aside from the fact that most folks out here just don't care, even if they don't smoke, they either have to deal with it or start a brawl. Most folks don't care enough to get a black eye over it, so they just accept it.

Here, even if you did call the cops from a remote crag, they'd just laugh at you on this one.

Get prepared to have everyone blast you for yet another pot post...

I used to smoke almost every time I climbed and the majority of my partners didn't like it. A few were totally fine and they smoked up too. I always avoided smoking when climbing with anyone that dissaproved, unless it was TR. With that said I never had a problem with delayed reaction or making bad decisions. Nobody I've ever climbed with got dropped or even had an extended fall due to my negligence. It DID however hold me back. Now that I've quit I'm climbing a grade harder, but that is also due to significant weight loss in that last year. I attribute that to the fact I'm getting a lot more cardio these days, but also not getting the munchies anymore. I miss toking up but it was holding me back from some great climbing and some great partners.

I have no problem with anyone that smokes though. The whole delayed reaction thing cracks me up. If you don't smoke you don't get it. I don't care what the "science" says. It never caused me any issues in the 8 years that I smoked up at least 20 times a day. I was a feign and unless you smelled it or I told you (which I always did with my partners) then you wouldn't have had a clue. Maybe I'm a localized case, but even my doctor couldn't tell when I approached him about help quitting. Anyway, prepare to be flamed for your choice of thread topics.

your askin' for a blastin' by posting this thread bro, but i'll save that for job for someone else. almost all the climbers here (myslef included) partake of a little bit of green every now and then before climbing. as one person said, the delayed reaction thing IS quite ridiculous, all really it does to me is stave off the pain of sharp crimpers. not sure WHY this is even an issue, if you don't do it, don't do it, but don't bring people down that do, if it's something you've never tried. if your'e feelin' iffy on having someone who has smoked recently giving you a catch at the crags, then find someone else to do it. simple as that.

The weird thing is that last summer some climbers where smoking some weed at this crag that is a state park. It was weird cuz not only is there a a bunch of tourists around but its a state park and it was on the main wall not some tucked away cliff.

Go ahead and smoke, thats cool, whatever, but a little less populated area maybe.

i've seen many more people smoking weed while walking down the sidewalk in BC cities than at BC crags.
