Is it my computer or did the front page layout change? Personally I can't sites that are excessively long requiring scrolling. Personally the first thing I go to on this site is the recent forum posts thus I hate having to scroll down past the article, routes, and review sections. Maybe an admin. could put up a poll to see who wants what near the top of the front page. What say you? d.

RSS is a good way to go. However, I'm also not psyched about recent forum posts being so low. But I really, really, really want more editorial content on here, so articles and gear reviews will stay at the top. Let me see how that works for a while (maybe a month?), check the traffic stats, blah, blah... and if I didn't break anything big by moving articles and gear reviews up, I'll take a look at bring the forums along with them.

Oh, another suggestion, check your screen resolution. RC.com definitely looks better on a wider screen.

"looks" better, yes, but it still isn't what the OP was looking for, I don't think. I'm on 1600x1200, and I can't even see "Climbing News" without scrolling a bit. Mind you, I don't give a toss, as I hardly ever even see the home page

On my computer at work things like featured photos get pushed all the way to the bottom. At home, with a wider screen, it looks okay. It would be better if the new layout worked at all screen widths.

I know the reasons why they went that way, but now that I'm trying to actually do something with the home page, it's killing me! However, photos should still be at top right, regardless, and I'm not sure why yours doesn't display that way. What browser and screen resolution do you use?

There's not a whole lot of real news in there. It's yet another thing I'll have to tackle at some point in time.

I think the homepage is good. But! You should look into making RC.com more like a google product. Their gMail, gChat, and all of their shananigans are very, very user friendly. Check out their designs if you have not already.

Any update on this? I know changes are planned for the FP photos, but I wasn't sure if Forum Discussions were going to move from the very bottom of the page. I understand the desire to have articles and gear reviews fairly high up. Maybe the number of past reviews listed can be reduced?

I'm actively working on it now, but it'll still be some time before you see any changes. Forum posts will, in all likelihood stay at the bottom, but if all goes according to plan, they'll be a lot closer to the fold. We're undertaking not so much a redesign of the home page, but a re-organizing.
