Hey everyone, I just got back from a great Thanksgiving weekend climbing and photographing in Bishop, CA. It was mostly a photo trip for me with a little bit of climbing thrown in for good measure. By the end of the 4 day trip I had shot 1,127 photographs I've been going through trying to pull out the good ones so I thought I'd share some of the ones I've gone through so far.

Evolv climber Craig Gilbert climbing Evilution (V12) - Buttermilks, CA

Climbing Evilution (V12) - Buttermilks, CA

Climbing Pow Pow (V8) - The Sad Boulders, Bishop, CA

Mad Rock climber Jess Chen on Iron Man (V4) - Buttermilks, Bishop, CA

Spencer Canon climbing Strength in Numbers (V5) - The Sad Boulders, Bishop, CA

Spencer Canon on Highbrow (V8) - The Happy Boulders, CA

Kevin Scrivnor climbing Strength in Numbers (V5) - The Sad Boulders, Bishop, CA

I have a lot more to take a look at so I'll post up more as I have time to go through and edit.

Cheers,
Jason

There's no way that tiny little spotter in the green shirt can redirect that climber to the pad!

I remember getting on Strength in Numbers, but I didn't finish it. For some reason I remember it being a bit painful, but then man hands were bleeding a lot already from Joshua Tree at the time.

It's funny how an 11mm lens can make a guy look so small and funny. The guy in the green shirt would probably do a slightly better job at spotting then Spencer's 8 pound dog that decided to park herself on the crash pad as he was climbing.

WOW I just love this picture, and all of them but this one stands out.

I love the lighting, and the lichen on the rock adds so much color and awesomeness to the photo.

NICE work.

Is the horizon correct on this one? Just curious. Awesome pics though, thanks for posting. It's great to see stuff like this when winter has set in on the east coast.

Even if the horizon isn't correct and was straight it would make the climb steeper. So it isn't cheating or anything.

But just looking at it, it looks correct me.?

Is there really a "correct" horizon? Who says hoizons have to be perfectly level? I think that's the last time I'm drawn to in the photo, but that's just me.

Here are some more from the trip.

Climbers having some fun.

Spencer Canon climbing Strength in Numbers (V5) - The Sad Boulders, Bishop, CA

Spencer Canon climbing High Plains Drifter (V7) - Buttermilks, Bishop, CA

Tyler Nelson climbing Pow Pow (V8) - The Sad Boulders, Bishop, CA

Another of Jess Chen on Iron Man V4 - Buttermilks, CA

Spencer Canon climbing Pow Pow (V8) - The Sad Boulders, Bishop, CA

Tony Tseng taking a break after topping out a warm up climb at the Sad Boulders, Bishop, CA

Very nice shots - I may have overlooked it in the post, but what camera and lenses were you using? Any auxiliary lighting?

Again - nice images,

J

All of the photos were shot with a Nikon D300. Lenses varied, I was carrying 3 with me for the weekend. Like the stuff of Jess on Iron Man as well as the shots from Strength in Numbers were shot with a Tokina 11-16mm f\2.8. The Shots of Pow Pow, Highbrow and Evilution were shot with a Tokina 16-50mm f\2.8 and the shot of High Plains, the guy bouldering with the 2 spotters and the guy sitting on the rock were shot with a Nikon 70-200mm f\2.8 VR.

I used a single SB-800 flash mounted on a stand off camera triggered by my D300's on camera flash in commander mode for the photos of Pow Pow, Highbrow, and Evilution. I should have brought a second flash out with me but not too bad for only one flash unit. I need to look into getting a set of Radio Poppers as I've head a lot of good things about them.

My Flickr page has all the EXIF date for the photos if you're interested. http://www.flickr.com/...s/chancephotography/
