Hi folks, You probably can't read this, but just in case... it looks like we're experiencing a particularly nasty bug in all the forums. I'm aware of what's going on and working on the problem. Please be patient. Jay

Okay, we're back up and running -- at the moment. I still don't know what happened, but the folks at Gossamer Threads restored a template from back up, so we're good for now. I can't tell you how sorry I am for any inconvenience this caused! I take full responsibility for... whatever it was... and I promise I'll do my best to understand what caused it and ensure it doesn't happen again. Thanks, Jay

The servers for my job are down more than that every weekend! Thanks for keeping RC.com running---it is more important than logging into my work email after all. CM

In reply to: I can't tell you how sorry I am for any inconvenience this caused! Wow, are you this apologetic to those that wait behind you in the bathroom while you take a dump? ADD: good god man, NBD!

Okay, here's what happened. It is technically accurate to say that I broke the site. I've been working on a new tool for moderators that went live for the first time yesterday. Although testing earlier in the day showed zero effects like what we saw last night, the bug we experienced was associated with those changes to the forum template. Ironically, the new mod tool is supposed to make what we do less intrusive. Heh. It will allow us to hide single posts, rather than "recycling," which also tosses everything threaded to the moved post. That moderator tool is once again up and running, but hopefully with fewer byproducts, so to speak. I'll be signing off for the evening soon, but I'll check back in from time to time to make sure everything is running. Others, who will be online through much of the night have my digits and Gossamer's support info, should anything else go awry. So, once again, I apologize for last night's hiccup. Have an uneventful evening, willya? Jay
