Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew what areas/routes were typically closed in zion during the summer. Also, what routes are typically left open and make good summer climbs.

From this past year:
In reply to: The following cliffs will be closed to climbing beginning March 1, 2008: Mount Kinesava, Streaked Wall, Sentinel, Mountain of the Sun, Great White Throne (beyond single and double-pitched climbs), Cable Mountain, Isaac (in Court of the Patriarchs), North Twin Brother, Middle Fork of Taylor Creek, the northeast buttress of Angel’s Landing and Tunnel West. All other cliffs are open to climbing. Park biologists will continue to monitor nesting activity of peregrine falcons in the park throughout the 2008 breeding season. Climbing routes that were previously used for nesting by peregrines, but are not being used this year, will be re-opened in May. Cliffs used by nesting peregrines this year will be monitored until the chicks fledge, usually in late July, and then reopened. Regarding summer - most folks consider it too hot; 100+F is common, and in the sun it'll feel like 120F. Zion had a bunch of 105F - 110F days this past summer. Some do manage the routes on Angel's Landing during cool (upper 90's) spells since that's in the shade most of the day. What kind of routes are you looking to do? I assume you realize that there are relatively few short routes, no sport routes, and most have varying degrees of aid unless you can handle 5.12 and up cracks and corners. And a lot of the the aid routes are PDH.

Thanks for the great information. I am looking to climb crack (trad) and aid routes. I lead 5.10 trad now and want to learn how to aid climb. What climbs would you recommend there to start with.
