I am a climber from the early 1970's who put up some of the first routes and seconded some others. I also have a copyrighted publication which my partner and I produced called A Climbers Guide to Boileau Rocks-as it was then known. It is still my favorite climbing place.

Did you happen to be a student at Del Val at the time? Had a lot of good times climbing there. Get back once in a great while and always stop by to get in a few routes.

I'm Kirby Ellis...I was a student at Del Val and climbed with Pete Colman, Bob Heitzman, the Werners and some other guys.

Hey Kirby. I'm Bud Arbelo. My sister Ruth and I both attended Del Val at the same time. I believe you and she were friends. Didn't start climbing till sometime later. Spent a lot of time at High Rocks and the Gunks before moving west. Ever out this way lets head to the Creek and also bag some towers.

No you don't know me Kirby,but the co-author of the Climbers Guide to Boileau Rocks is Pete Kolman I believe.I haven't seen Pete in many years.
Warren Musselman and I wrote the next guidebook,then one by Doug Reilley,then Paul Nick.
Are you still climbing then?

Yes,I'm still an avid climber,living in New Hampshire since 1983.Last I heard Pete was teaching in Quakertown.Warren Musselman,my co-author,just forwarded me our notes from the Edge,the cliff downstream from Stover.I will be posting them in the routes section soon.
If you are new in here,you'll find Stover a love/hate proposition with many posters.Lot's of detractors,but also still a group that loves the place for what it is.This particular forum,regional discussions often has people discussing the place.I had many great times and experiences there.When we started there,everything was advertised to be a death route,but we found lots of good stuff,as have people since.
If you climbed ice at what we then called Reigelsville,it's called The Narrows now,and an active group has revitalized that place as well.
I think I learned more there than climbing in the Gunks.

whoa, Stover old timers' reunion... gotta love the net.
Kirby, I still have a copy of that guide... first guide I ever bought. Haven't seen Pete Kolman (always thought it was Coleman?) in many years.
I saw Bill Shaniman up at Chasm Lake a few years ago and he looked fit as ever. Never see anyone else from those days.
Tommy, I agree about learning a lot at Stover. Folks that think it's too dangerous to lead there really should do a few routes in Eldo...
