Saw this on supertopos, haven't seen it anywhere around here. Ammon wrote: "On November 19, 2002, Nick Fowler and I climbed the Zodiac in 5 hours and 57 minutes. I was actually going to climb the route with my wife Catra but she was having trouble cleaning the first pitch. Nick showed up at the base planning to go for the solo record. I had never met Nick before but knew him through reputation. Before we knew it we were planning to climb the route together. We left the ground at 3:53pm. I led the entire route, mostly in the dark, while Nick cleaned and tagged gear. A few things besides the dark slowed us down.... someone bootied some fixed pins near the top (we did the route hammerless) and I could have gone faster if I were wearing my free shoes. The previous time on the Zodiac was 7:04 made by Miles Smart and Chris McNamara. Cheers, Ammon" Thought it was pretty cool.

Whoops, didn't see that thread. Shrug. Many props to you though man. I did Zodiac with a buddy a couple years ago. Three day affair. I can't imagine throwing it down in sub 6 hours, though, excellent job.

They shouldn't call it a Speed Ascent, because that gives off the wrong idea of what it is. It's NOT an ascent wherein the ascentists took Speed, and then went for it. And it's not a rohypnol ascent, wherein one person slipped a drug into the cup of another to induce them towards wanting to go up El Cap in record time. And, even though it's just to the right of the Tangerine Trip, it's not about people taking acid and then seeing some sort of God who spurs them to the summit. Speed ascent = good technique and confidence.
