Rumney - Peregrine Falcons have taken up residence on the Summit Cliff. The
entire Summit Cliff (including “Flea Surgeon” and “Northwest Passage”),
as well as the Asylum Cliff to climbers’ left and the Monolith to
climbers’ right) are temporarily closed to climbing. All other crags,
including the Main Cliff near Buffalo Road are OPEN.
Cathedral Ledge -Peregrine Falcons have taken up residence on the northern end of
Cathedral Ledge. Routes from climbers' right of "Cathedral Roof" to
climbers' left of "Diedre" (including "Repentence" and "Remission") are
temporarily closed to climbing. All other areas on the cliff remain
OPEN.
Your cooperation is essential if these birds are to nest
successfully. Peregrines are protected by both Federal and State laws.

Is this an appropriate closure that will be lifted two weeks after the young have fledged,
or an arbitrary closure that extends until August first needed or not?

appropriate. They generally have a few nests every year at either Summit or Main Cliff. They close it around the same time every year then find out exactly where they are and only keep the occupied cliffs closed.
It's been pretty successful and it doesn't really impact the climbing all that much. especially when they nest at Summit cliff.. but even main cliff can be avoided for a few months (i don't like main cliff anyway so i'm never concerned)
They will update the signs at the message board and on the trails when the closure is lifted.

TWO WEEKS AFTER THE YOUNG HAVE FLEDGED THE NEST which would address the biologic need,
or are the they being maintained through an arbitrary time period say (February 15 through July 31) regardless of biological need?

Now i really want to know what the FUCk you are talking about?? you are making no sense at all. I can't even tell if you're ok or not ok with the closure or even know where Rumney is
This closure has been going on for YEARS and has been VERY well respected by ALL Rumney climbers. I've never heard of someone violating it or even having issue with it. The Perigrines are awesome to see up flying around and all the climbers i know love to see them and are never bothered by the closure. It's accepted and respected that is all.
