for best I like supertopo and summit post. for most entertaining I like rc.com. tradgirl is good for basic info, but the format and web design really sucks. I don't like 8a.nu, but then again I usually don't keep a climbing log of any kind. I can't really think of any horribly rotten climbing sites, maybe that one that was something like 'ask guys', but that wasn't a climbing site, just had horrible misinformation about climbing. There have been some pretty amusing, and horribly uninformative/misinformative blogs linked on this site.

Sorry, but RC.com has to be the worst how many "I climbed my first 5.8" or "why does everybody hate gym climbers?" threads can you read before you realize this site blows??

rockclimbing.com is one of the worst. Too many inexperienced know it all types spouting off advice when they shouldn't be. Too many gymbies. There are a few experienced folk that have good advice, but the threads are so cluttered with bullshit that it's hard for the person asking the question to filter out all the noise. So...what kind of shoes are the best?

I forgot the name of the website but it was essentially a new company looking to sponsor climbers. I think the motto was "NEVER LET UP." They spammed around here for awhile until leaving. ..I think rc.com has a good community of posters that compensate for all the redundant common threads.

The posters make the site. If you think it sucks it's only because you must suck Don't like it? Don't come back! I could name a site that I prefer not to go to but I really can't call it a bad site. IMHO RC.com is informative as well as entertaining. Sometimes I need both in my day without having to travel throughout the web.

Rc has it's issues, but it's probably the most heavily used site out there. Some sites have a better design, some have a better data base, but I have been on some that I can hear my echo in. THey are just not used enough to get enough discussion on something. I agree, if you can't filter through the noise, then you will not get much out of rc.com, but if you can and you know who to listen to, then there is some pretty good info here. It just takes a little while to figure out who's who. Josh

The good thing about hearing many points of view on this site (admittedly not all valid) is that you are keenly made aware that there is generally no one best way to do something. That for any given situation there may be multiple ways to solve the problem, each valid from a different point of view. Again, one does learn which folks tend to post better ways of doing things, but even there there can be valid disagreement as to the best.

But it's a fun site, a good networking tool, and there is some good information if you know who to listen to or to ask.

No other site has the Trango Home-Made Cam Challenge, and The Needless Destruction Theatre. Those in and of ithemsleves makes this the coolest of ALL climbing sites.

It sounds like this has mainly been referring to the forums...I think the forums on RC.com are pretty much useless. SuperTopo has a bunch of really entertaining characters as well as some legends... Right now, although there is usually only one post a week, I reall like the people at the Mountain Project forums. For overall climbing sites (which I think this thread is about) I think RC is one of the best...the climbing database is one of the better ones on the web...RC.com is like the non euro..non stick up the ass 8a.nu For ultimate spray wars though...8a takes the cake. the rc forums are pretty remedial...
