I was recently in a comp and crimped too hard on a small edge. Now the back of the distal phalanx of my ring finger hurts when it's in a crimp position. I've had finger injuries before but they've always been on the inside proximal phalanx. Any ideas what the injury is and how to rehabilitate it?

When you say "first digit", you you mean "distal phalanx?" First digit is your thumb.

"Back" of the distal phalanx, I'd take to be the nail side (posterior, or dorsal, would be the more appropriate terms, not to be a know-it-all, but just to inform). Offhand, I'd suspect a stress fracture, since the extensor tendons really should be on slack during crimping. Avoid crimping, do lots of range-of-motion. As long as doing range of motion is not increasing the inflammation. If just moving it is making it worse, go see a hand specialist.
