Please help. My friend and I are British climbers thinking of coming on a trip to the US in June and july as this is the only time we can both go on holiday together. Where there good climbing weather and climbing this time of year?

I was thinking about coming to the east somewhere. I've never been to the states before. A while ago a friend of mine recommended the gunks, red river gorge and a few other places. However my worry was that it might be too hot most places this time of year?

Your friends recommendation is probably clue enough although some like me have never climbed at those locations. A short description of what kind of climbing may have some of us persuading at trip out to the western usa. Bill

just regular free rock climbing. trad or sport either is great - but trad prefered. we like multi and single pitch, long rotes are great but maybe not multi day. we boulder too but we'd rather go to a destination with routes. we're both leadingin the low 5.10 trad bracket. ideally it would be good to be in a warm environment but not so hot as to make climbing difficult. i'd be happy to go west instead. i efinately want to go out there sometime anyway, but most fothe places i know about are better suited to a spring or fall visit. please enlighten me.

The western US should be less humid than the east. I think anyplace out here, at higher elevations would be a good bet. Cali, Colo, Utah (northern) and Wyoming would be great.

Lots of climbing on the East coast in june and july. It might rain a little but you Brits can handle that. Cathedral Ledge, The Daks, The Gunks for sure, Seneca Rocks and The New just to mention a few. When it gets hot you just chase the shade.

Colorado will bake you, trust me. I suggest Acadia Maine, stays cool enough with a constant ocean breeze, there is good trad with a killer ocean view, plus sea-side cragging. Beautiful place!

I would stay away from the East. It is still good in the early summer, but not so good that I would make a trip there. The VERY best destination places around June would be Tuolomne, as Jay said (though it still may have a bit of snow), City of Rocks, Maple Canyon, or Squamish. Most others would be nice, but not worthy of an international trip, in my opinion.

I don't understand why folks say the east isn't good in June. June is a pretty good month, particularly for the northeast: Gunks, Daks, New England. The bad weather doesn't hit the east until July, and that's when it can get humid. Even then, it doesn't stop anyone from climbing. If it is too hot, head north. June is definitely not too hot for the northeast. The east has plenty of trad, sport, multi-pitch, and bouldering. The vast majority of the routes are not all-day routes, but there are a few. Many of the routes in the top locations have multiple multi-pitch routes where several can easily be done in a day.

I think you are right about Cathedral Ledge, Acadia, Daks etc. being good in June. I am assuming that others who said that east is not good are probably referring to the New, Red, and Seneca among others. Although totally doable, those areas start getting humid and hot (I have actually never been to seneca, so that one, I am not sure). Overall I guess there are more options in west...
