reno never said he did not like the areas. he simply said that there was a reason that nobody mentioned them.

You mean the Tetons? They're OK if you don't mind having to hike at least 1 mile for every pitch you climb.

Or, maybe, folks don't want the whole dang climbing world showing up and learning how good some of these "lesser mentioned" crags are.

or maybe there is a lot of climbing in the southeast that is private land, with privately owned and/or very limited parking, and/or privately owned access trails.

now, what the heck is the name of that roadside clipup crag in jackson? i remember it looked like a short approach, but then it was steep and very switchbacked. i went there with a scoutmaster who answered my bulletin board ad at the american alpine club place...

alright then, king's bluff is totally underrated. chossy limestone, route placards, privately owned, plenty of parking, and a cliff that reaches all the way to 40 feet in some places!

and, in reality, it's one of my favorite places because the people there are so welcoming, friendly, and easy to talk with. they'll even share super-secret development crag information with you, and there are hardly any egos or sense of entitlement or ownership. the climbing isn't great but the scene is super chill.

I'm not sure if you're being cheeky (who, you?!) but I actually love Shelf and thought about voting for it here. But didn't it have a pretty big heyday back in the days of manorexic mullet mania? I thought it was more dated than underrated...

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I like long moderate routes, and was very not impressed with RRG. Lots of people, humid, single pitch boringness. Anywhere in the Sierra high country is underrated, awesome long routes, dreamy granite, and great weather. If you think Yos. is too busy or overated, get out of the Valley. I loved Vedauwoo too, what a humbling place Crazy. The best underrated crag is my secret crag in N. Ontario. 250-300 ft. routes, and every climb is an FA on solid granite. No, you can't come along.

PS JTree does indeed suck.

Rodeo is just south of town, holds about a dozen clip-ups roadside, and is meh at best.

Upon further reflection, I must admit that Shelf is grossly over rated. Adding to the list of P.O.S. choss piles, encased in bird doo, overrun by gym "trained" wannabe's, over bolted, chipped, lichen covered, greasy chalked-up holds, mosquito infested, poison ivy lined, loose flakes, grungy bottoming cracks, poor-excuse-for-a-route crags:

Anything roughly resembling rock in the following general region:
- west of Kansas and east of Utah
- south of Wyoming and north of New Mexico

You got it folks, COLORADO. The whole state sucks canal water. Big time. There is no decent climbing anywhere in that state. Not now, not in the past, not ever.

My advice, get the $*%&# out of the state as soon as possible, never return, and leave the piss-poor local bastards the "honor" of grovelling in their own excrement.

Most under-rated - east side of the Sierras & Indian Creek
(Disclosure - I am an Indian Creek fan/specialist who lives in Chicago)

The quantity & quality of the routes along the east side of the Sierras is outstanding & the area is vast enough that crowds are not an issue.

Indian Creek has an atmosphere & scenery that are not to be found anywhere else I have been.
With the addition of new walls/routes & the vastness of Indian Creek canyon, crowds are not really an issue and beginners have some places to climb.
The Moab area also has Mill Creek & desert towers plus a ton of rest day activities.
