I completely redesign this 1974 VW camper to do around the world road trip on it and added a bullet proof 1980 water cooled Mazda 1.4 liter engine and it gives me 25-35 Mile per gal fuel consumption. It also has a warm shower in the back door so you could wash your body up to 5 minutes and 1500 watt generator that could run power to a house with solid 4 wheel disc break.

Sweet Majid, I'd never heard of the mazda conversion! But I WAS a vanagon dude. Where did you install your radiator on that air cooled bay? Veedub campers are cool but a labor of love to maintain. They are all getting on in years and you need to either buy one that has been worked over or else you will need to consider additonal time/labor or $$. Check out thesamba.com classified ads http://www.thesamba.com/...ifieds/cat.php?id=55 Wish you had posted sooner I just sold mine http://www.thesamba.com/...detail.php?id=777025

Hey Majid- you know about the 1907 Peking to Paris race? The winner, Prince Borghese, was my best friend's great-grandfather! He's talked about perhaps doing the drive on his own someday....

What diesel power plant did you use Majid? In the process of doing a 4 cyl. 3.3 turbo Yanmar in an 86 Toy p/u and possibly dropping a Westy on the frame.

I like to get an older subaru, put a yanmar turbo diesel then drop a 80 model westy on top it. what you think ?

I think they did it over Karakorum hwy in hindu koch These are the images from the Karakorum hwy in Kashmir Pakistan/India. My goal is to drive over the Himalayas and just climb. Anything is possible with a big hammer and a torch. I chose the IFS on the 86 Toy because not too much to modify for the increased weight of the diesel. Going to upgrade the torsion bars to 25 or 26 mm for the weight and a 4 to 6 in. lift for larger tires for more road speed. Otherwise I'll have to find a new tranny to spec to the lower rpm diesel. I'm old and drive slow or maybe it's as a truck mechanic pulling hills in low gear and turning on the flashers is just second nature. Don't know much about the Subaru suspension and what would be necessary to beef it up but parts for the Subie would be more available than the 4x4 Westy that is for sure.

i would take you up on that except: a)i have to be honest and admit i'm not quite that badass of a medic....not technically a medic, really. W-EMTB.... b) if all goes according to plan i'll be committed to at least 8 more years of training starting this august----BUT if you are still interested after that, i should be a board certified ER/ICU doc and would love to tag along!
