New to outdoor bouldering and i am having trouble deciding what crash pad to buy. Its between the black diamond drop zone and the black diamond Mondo. Ill be bouldering with only one pad alot and am unsure if the drop zone will be big enough... any suggestions or advice? Theres not any reviews on these pads on this site.

The old Drop Zone was plenty big enough for me. I've got one of the Mad Pads now, and I sometimes wish I'd gotten a smaller pad.

Make sure the pad will fit in your trunk, and if you're planning on hiking the pad any distance, pick the smaller one.

Unless you have used a friends mondo and liked it get a standard sized pad like the drops zone. If you find it does not offer enough coverage for the areas you climb in (say their are lots of stumps and small boulders) you can buy a 2nd standard pad and probably have spent around what the mondo costs for a more versatile (and packable) system.

I often find i end up with one pad under the start of a problem and one positioned over a stump or something i might hit my head on.

That said, big pads like the mondo are awesome for high balls and really rough landings but if you are doing those you should be with a group of people and a pad pile works almost as well.

Why the BD pads? I've never seen Franklin or BD pads hold up all that well.

my brother boulders high stuff and is often alone. He uses the mondo. Its great, ...super fat you can launch from way up.
Sure its maybe a little more awkward to pack. But I would rather spend 10 extra minutes walking in, than spend a extra hour hobbling out because you twisted your ankle uses a little pad.

I'd say save up and get a better pad, but if you've got no other options for now, that's what you'll do.

I prefer Organic pads. Best foam on the market, custom designs, hand made in America.

Josh's building me a new one right now.

Can't say I've heard great things about the BD pads. Haven't heard bad things, just haven't heard the "great" comments.

Flashed pads are great.
Same with Metolius (mind you my metolius pad is old).

Have heard really good things about Organic too.

Does Cordless still exist?

(don't really pebble wrestle much anymore)

get the pad that teaches you how to use the "search" function.

i've participated in at least four or five of these threads over the last year or so.
