Well, bad news, I can only stay a few hours on Saturday. I have an appointment that afternoon.

But I will be ready to take a group out Friday morning. We will be rolling in around 9 or 10 am.

Take care,

tim

P.S. You folks are camping at the base of the mountain, near the ranger station, right?

Uh huh. The dry creek bed before you start to go up the well lubed hill.
Anyway, Tim, you know, those 2 campsites on the right before and after the culvert.

Well everybody, I'm off to see my mummy, um...mommy. Remember, after turning onto Rocky lane off Chamberlain Rd., go about 3/4 mile and on the right, look for either a red Toyota Tacoma w/ a white camper top, or a very large white truck w/ a red camper top.
I'll see you all there!

Great idea!

Obed is a sweet climbing area( Wartburg, TN). Mostly sport. Clear creek is south facing and i have climbed there in 20 degree weather with just a t-shirt.

If trad is your preference, definately Chattanooga area. There is plenty of parking at Sunset (just requires about a 3/4 hike on pavement). The nearest camping area to sunset is located on Racoon Mountain (about 15 minutes away).

Yes, Twall has had numerous break-ins but the climbing is worth the risk. I have heard if you leave your windows rolled down and doors unlocked, the bastard thieves will not break your vehicle.

Early NOVEMBER is a great time to climb in the south. The new guide books for Tennessee (vol1) and GA / AL (vol2) will be out in July05 and will have a lot more routes at TWall and the new climbing areas in Tennessee and Alabama. The road into Lost Wall, GA is being redone and will be finished by then. I would pick someplace that is not just sport like the OBED or Fosters. Or have the gathering at two places. Sandrock is close to the new climbing area Jamestown. The rock at Jamestown is every bit as good as Twall, no camping there yet. but being 30 minutes from Sandrock is not so bad a drive.

Yahoooooooo lets doit

Rumbling Bald is my 1st place vote (more trad crack climbing) but Looking Glass is much closer to Brevard and has some nice lines as well. heck we could do both on the same weekend!

How can I miss this? I'll make the drive up from Florida for this.

Anne - My grandmom lives in Brevard, so when I come to visit her we'll have to catch up.

Southeast Gathering....take 2.

We need to get biggernhell and tradpuppy and them guys back over.
I want some more deep fried turkey!
