Are either of you guys the rangers that bust people for discretely smoking pot in their campsites at night with night-vision binoculars? If you are not, then I'm sorry to accuse. If you are those guys... then you can suck a fart out of my ass and hold it in like a bong hit!

No, I'm at least not...but correct me if I'm wrong: isn't smoking pot illegal? Let alone on Federal land?

There are MUCH worse things going on the personal pot smoking, let's be serious. Now if someone is smoking out in public, bust them - they were stupid for doing so. But if they are politely keeping to themselves and enjoying getting high without harming anyone, then what's the problem? The USA law system is fucked- always more worried about controlling the people instead of protecting them.

As much as I hate to turn this into a flaming war, you both are idiots. No, I'm not a ranger. I really don't give a shit if you trust me or not but I'm telling the truth. You may not be harming someone but smoking pot is against the law despite most people (including *gasp* law enforcement officers) wishing it wasn't. So before you shit on a bunch of rangers just because they're doing their jobs just realize that that harmless activity you're doing (or smoking I should say) is illegal and until congress passes a bill changing that they will always be enforcing said law that makes good ol mary jane illegal whether they like it or not. I'm off my soap box....let the flaming begin.

I'm just saying that sneaking around with IR goggles looking specifically for pot smokers is a waste of time, they should be trying to stop more sinister crimes. Not that I smoke pot, it's just not my thing.

I totally hear you but look at it this way: 1) It's still their job. Drug enforcement is still part of their job. So if you know that most of the people visiting the park that are still within the park boundaries after dark are going to be in the campsites then that just makes for a logical place for a patrol...sometimes they come across people smoking up and then, like I've said time and before, they perform their job and 2) most parks aren't exactly South Central LA. Most rangers aren't constantly running down rapists, murders, smugglers, etc at 9:30 at night. If they were, a couple of pot smokers would be the absolute very least of their concerns. So the next time you see a ranger (or hear about one) around a campsite with NV goggles...you can probably safely say that it's a slow night for them...

Hey hippie, Your county-issued, or even state-issued, medical marijuana card is useless on federal land. But bring it anyway in case you run out of toilet paper. If you get cited and want to push the issue, it's safe to say that a federal prosecutor would eat your drug-advocate lawyer for lunch.
