I am just moving up to MD and want to find some new places to climb, so I was stoked to see that carderock is only a little bit away from DC. The only climbing I've ever done is in NC and I've never had to set an anchor as long as 20 or 30 feet like what has been mentioned that you can expect to see at carderock. Do you need to do anything different for this long of an anchor, or just use a crap-ton of webbing? Thanks,

I have a place like that down here. You just have to use a butt load of webbing.

I have a 30' static rope to set up anchors that are set back from the edge. You can use webbing, but the webbing tends to stretch more.
If you use webbing, you want to bring something to pad the edge. Well, with the rope as well if you want to protect it from repeated abuse. Car floor mats, piece of carpet, your rope bag, duct tape and cardboard as a last resort. You can also use a section of tubular webbing, or a section of fire hose if you can get it, and pass the anchor line through it.

TR or Lead?
If you're leading, just use the rope to extend the anchor and belay from above.

cardrerock, great falls, and sugarloaf will keep you busy for awhile. LOOOOng slings from webbing.
