I've just moved to the Chicago area and I'm looking for a climbing gym where i can boulder lead and top rope, and get to know some climbers to organize some outdoor trips and events. If anyone has any info on where I should start or places I should check out let me know. Thanks!

A sister gym to the outdoor one you saw at Diversey/Sheffield is Lakeview Athletic Club (LVAC). It's on Broadway just north of Belmont; just the next street over from where you live. You can take a look at the wall from outside as it's on full display through the glass. ~50' tall walls, lead climbing is available, and some bouldering is available.

If you have a LVAC membership you can partake in the outdoor wall (LPAC) when it's in season (~May-October) for a fairly low day usage fee ($7?) which will be nice on breezy summer days and good for changing things up for your training.

If you want to train bouldering more seriously, I'd suggest making (supplemental) trips down to Hidden Peak.

As a whole, the climbing community in Chicago is pretty friendly and you can meet people for outdoor trips at any of the gyms.
