self explanatory title. The "my stuff" bar has been inexplicably moved to the right side of the screen, where it's apt to get pushed off the viewable field. are there ads on the left now? i dunno, i have adblocker. just wondering since studies show your eyes read stuff on the left side of the screen more.

I agree.. it's not a good look or very user friendly. i wish they would actually work on some of the user requested features instead of effing with the colors putting new colors doesn't change the fact that the route data base blows and people have wanted killfile back for like 4 years

By the time I post this you may already be used to the new location of the all important My Stuff box! Bear with it, it will only take a day. Seriously though... The design for Rockclimbing.com has navigation at the top, and not in the left or right sidebar. The My Stuff box is a convenient list of shortcuts and is available from the main (horizontal) navigation bar. It was originally omitted from both the left and right sidebars in the new layout, however we placed it back on the home page in the right sidebar following user feedback. We decided to do the same for the forums section. This location follows a well-known paradigm for account- or profile-specific shortcuts and notifications (for example if a user has new mail or messages), and chances are good that you'll notice the same thing at your favorite social networking site.

facebook and myspace both have the navigation boxes on the left. not sure what "favorite social networking site" you're referring to.

Once again, the My Stuff box is not primarily a "navigation" menu. Navigation is organized horizontally at the top. My Stuff has useful shortcuts to your profile, account, messages, email etc. It also indicates if you have new mail and messages. See for example Facebook's "requests" section in the top right, or Twitter's right sidebar with info on number of messages, followers and so forth.

What about also having this My Stuff navigation box at the bottom of the page too? It would be nice to not have to return to the top of the page to access the navigation bar. I know a "Jump to" menu exists at the bottom of the page, so you can skip to another forum once you've read to the bottom of the page, but it would be great to be able to go to My Stuff too. Perhaps have the My Stuff box "float" down the page on the right as you scroll down? That way you can access it at any point while reading a thread or article.

All functional upgrades shall be put off while they make the site different colors

Holy crap do I find floating menus annoying. Jerky and distracting. And I think one of the problems with moving 'My Stuff' left is that the main content in the forums, the actual posts, quite a bit to the left. Reading is easier with a margin on the left. That margin existed with 'My Stuff' over there. The other sections seem to do that, but not as much on the forum. Click through the sections, the margin (gray area before white content block) is noticeably smaller on the forums. The username part bumps it over, but it still feels a little crowded to the side to my eye, though part of that is likely just a reaction to something new.

a floating menu would not fix the problem that the site's page width limiting algorithm breaks down after more than like 2 or 3 successive quotes (depending on how big of a screen you're using)and pushes the right hand menus, INCLUDING THE STUFF AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE off of the viewable field. this was mildly annoying when the menus were on the left, protected from shenanigans. it's considerably more annoying when the menus are on the right and are subject to being excluded from view.

Good point! With the My Stuff out of view, navigation becomes annoying. Perhaps the left is a better option.

Since the change, I've come, looked at the Community page (the first page I ever go to) with horror, and quickly left. I keep coming back hoping to see something different, but no. So I finally came here, cause I figured there had to be others didn't like this. Is it possible to have both (multiple) page styles available that people simply pick under account profile or something?

Get the YesScript add on from Firefox.. they won't go away but they will not produce revenue.. Menu on the right is effing stupid. i haven't used it since it was added. My thoughts is it was just a ploy to add side ad's to the space below.

Why can't it be on the left and have ads under it? Much more aesthetically pleasing.

I have to say that I agree. I am more likely to inadvertently ignore PMs with the my stuff menu on the right hand side as it's not as readily seen. It is somewhat annoying and I like to think of myself as pretty adaptable to change.

Most humans are trained to read LEFT-RIGHT (:P) so it's natural to look for common things on the left side of the page. Until then RC is blacklisted on YesScript voting with my share of ad revenue.

In the meantime, if you are willing to install Privoxy, I can supply you with a configuration file that will block the ads. PM me if you are interested in this. Jay
