Brutus of Wyde Stonehouse Memorial Aug 28-30: RSVP We’ve settled the general details (not the fine print) for the public memorial for Bruce Bindner AKA Brutus Of Wyde, August 28th through August 30th 2009. All the formal memorial activities will be on Saturday the 29th. Friday, in honor of WWBD (What would Brutus do?) we will have a work party at the Stonehouse. Mainly we will paint the Window and Door frames (even though there are no actual glass windows, nor doors to close) Clean up some trash nearby (facelift practice) and filter some water for folks to drink at the memorial. This is informal and there’s no pressure. A spectacular location to be sure. On Saturday you can crag in the morning in the Alabama Hills, and meet up around noon for the hike to the Stonehouse for the actual memorial. (less than an hour walk) After the memorial, we gather at the Lone Pine Film Museum, for a series of films related to our Brother Brutus. Key will be the film “Tempest” documenting the ascent of this hard El Cap route by Tom McMillan, Brutus of Wyde and Valerio Folco. Jerry Dodrill will also show slides from the ascent. There will also be a tribute video by Valerio and a family memorial video. If anybody has a video they’d like to contribute, the museum can handle anything on DVD or VHS. We have a limited number of sites reserved in Lone Pine Campground. After that, Tuttle Creek Campground has a lot of sites and it’s first-come, first served. For non-dirtbags, there are good hotels to stay in at Lone Pine and a hostel there as well. Many of you know there is free camping in the Alabama Hills but we are actively discouraging people from do that this weekend. A lot of extra climbers and others will be coming to the area for the memorial, and we don’t want to excessively impact the area in a way that could either damage anything, nor affect the prospect of climber access in the future. Sunday is open for everyone to climb and enjoy. Get nature’s blessings and Love one another. I’d like to (and others are welcome to) post links and maps to the above locations as information and time allows. More details will probably be forthcoming. We’d love it if you’d RSVP on this thread. Let us know how many are coming with you. If you need a campsite at Lone Pine, let us know that too and how many cars versus people are involved (you know how camping can be, campsites hold more people than cars) Edit: Em has created an Evite page for you to RSVP for the memorial. It would make the logistics easier if everyone RSVPed on that page. It's a good idea to do so here as well so the thread stays bumped. To RSVP go to http://www.evite.com/...DZPLOJT/brutusofwyde and fill out the information in the "reply here" box. Peace, and see you soon. Karl Please keep the responses about the memorial to this thread. Looking forward to remembering Brutus with Love and Good Spirit and celebrating Life and Each other in the process Here’s a link to info about the Stonehouse http://www.merrell-wolff.org/ashram.htm Peace Karl
