climbing suggestions for North Lake Tahoe area?

So I know about Donner Pass of course, but wanted to know if there were any other areas that are worth checking out that are closer to Reno rather than South Lake Tahoe.

I'm interested mostly in moderate sport no more than two pitches though preferably crag-style as we may be a group and it would definitely be just a day trip. No hardcore 4-6 hour climbing days for this part of the trip!
Open to moderate trad, but rather save that for the later part of the trip.

That's for after we leave the boulderers at the casinos!

heh

cheers for any suggestions

I looked at that! Looks interesting.

But 'Moderate'?! no way, I'm a n00b, I need about 10a and below.

thanks for the suggestion though!

There are a couple 9s at big chief. .10s tend to be considered moderate when it comes to sport climbing, .11s as well.

Not much concentrated bolted stuff under .10 I can think of, maybe Indian Springs? Or consider toproping up at the summit.

I think the closest crag to Reno is River Rock, just beyond the NV/CA border, around mile marker 205 or so. There is also Dinosaur Rock in Carson City that has a handful of stellar climbs. Hope this helps.

Ha! Been doing too much trad I guess.

I see what you mean about 10's for sport though.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

cheers
