Assuming it's a Flash ad - use Firefox and install the FlashBlock add-in.

The audio in Flash ads is embedded within and is part of the flash movie. There is no separate "audio feed" to disable.

So then you let your feelings be known to the management of the site and ....
...maybe write to the company that has the ad and explain why you find it objectionable....
...or maybe rant about it on this and other similar sites (to basically no avail)....
...and figure out how to deal with it since it's a revenue decision....
...and waste time and effort and energy in the process....

Or simply use FF and FlashBlock and be done with it. At least that way you have a solution.

Ah. But why should I need to do that?
Here's the other answer: 'cause it improves your browsing experience both here and on other sites. Ever go to a site that has 8 Youtube videos embedded in it? What happens without Flashblock? All 8 videos, with sound tracks, start playing, simultaneously.

It gives you the control over the web that you're supposed to have.

I haven't seen the ad and I've been unaware of the fact that there were ads with sounds being displayed. Where does it appear? Any chance of a screen shot?

Thanks!

It appears that Black Diamond has recently discovered Flash. In addition to their ads, their main site has also been redesigned in Flash. For some inexplicable reason, they're making all the same, classic mistakes that many before them have made when they were Flash newbs. Things like non-obvious links, repeated looping of an ad with no way to turn it off, no way to turn off sound, animation every time the page is reloaded, et al.

Install Ad Block Plus and you don't even see the "f".

See post here: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...post=2199500#2199500

Black Diamond responded to the feedback and provided a version of the ad without sound. Thanks BD!
