It was WI not AI that this guy climbed, and it wasn't WI that formed on Andromeda Strain up in the Icefields... this was early season Kananaskis Ice. Apparently it was "Thin but fun. Up to 20cms in spots where the wind had blown it around."
Somebody from Canmore just claimed the first ice of the season yesterday. I guess it's 'Game On' in the Canadian Rockies if you like the spicey thin.
I believe darkside was out hunting today.
That's because Grant has Friday's off. I'm hunting tomorrow. Rack is already together, and rope is coiled. All I need to do is put it all in the bag and make a thermos full of Coffee for the drive tomorrow morning.
I give it a 75% chance of success for ice. But my rack probably looks more Scottish than ice... I'm always realistic about early season.

Well, 2 partners canceling and my truck has a short somewhere which drains the battery... looks like no ice hunting for me today.
Now I looked at my past notes and temperature patterns, and I know where there is a 98% chance of some early season ice where it hasn't been posted about. But I know better than borrowing the wife's car and risking getting back to pick her up from work late. I've done that before.... it wasn't pretty, quite terrifying in fact.

Ya, things are exploding in the Rockies. Day time highs around -5C and overnight lows in the -18C range up high. Add to that a lot of ground water this year.
